General preventive advice

To maintain good oral hygiene, you need to brush twice every day using fluoride toothpaste. Also, spit out any remaining paste rather than rinsing it out. Power toothbrushes are found to be more effective than manual toothbrushes.

Floss and inter-dental brushes are effective as brushing teeth won't clean the space between the teeth adequately. The accumulation of bacterial plaque between the teeth often causes gum problems. We can advise you on the most suitable measure to remove plaque accumulations.

Diet plays a very important role in maintaining oral health. We advise you to avoid sugary drinks and snacks between meals and the last thing at night. Acidic beverages such as fizzy drinks and fruit juices can cause acid erosion of dental enamel and it is recommended that they be consumed only a few times a week rather than daily.

Smoking is not good for general health but it also has a very negative effect on gum health. Gum diseases are more common in people who smoke and treatments are less effective for smokers compared to non-smokers. Tobacco and alcohol consumption are major causes of oral cancer.
